Egon DC-Hub 48V, the heart of the 48V revolution.

Using tried and tested EGON circuit board-based power distribution, the Hub 48V is engineered to connect all major components to enable charging at 48V from an alternator and solar array. It connects components such as controllers, batteries, DC-converters, inverter, alternator and solar, all to one central unit, with in-built surge (load dump) protection. But why is this a revolutionary product?

The military has been using 48V for years, but until now its been out of reach to most other markets because of its inherent complexity. Egon's 48v architecture solves the complexity issue by using, at its heart, a central connection board. All the complex stuff has been done! Together with provided set-up parameters, a reliable, redundant-rich 48V system can be installed by any workshop with DC power skills. And even adventurous DIY types.

Is 48V right for your application?

Do you want or need charge rates far in excess of anything available in 12V? If shore power was a thing of the past, would this be beneficial to you? Do the limitations of 12V cramp your style? This isn't hype. 48V easily delivers in excess of 4 times the charge rates of any 12V system, and adds the efficiencies of 48V to any system using it.

TO BUILD an operational 48V system you will need the following products. In this list, only the alternator and battery (needs compatible comms protocol) are optional should you prefer to source them elsewhere. Other branded DC-DC converters or alternator controllers are NOT compatible with the Egon 48V hub.

CAN I INSTAL THIS MYSELF?

While installation is literally a matter of following instructions to connect these devices and set-up parameters, all are critical to successful operation. So, if you do not have experience with DC electrics, then do not attempt to install it yourself. Find a qualified workshop to install it for you. It means someone who have experience with DC electrical installations and a proven track record.

Included in this product is a multi-purpose and extremely rugged protective stainless-steel bracket as seen in illustrations. It can be located in any orientation. (Remove plastic protective cover before use)

Battery Compatibility & Warranty Requirements

To maintain valid warranty coverage for your Egon 48V Hub, the system must be installed using either:

  1. An Egon Certified Battery, or

  2. A battery featuring an equivalent and fully compatible communication protocol to an Egon Certified Battery.

Why Active Communication Is Required

The Egon 48V architecture relies on active CAN bus communication to ensure optimal performance, safety, and diagnostic capabilities. Without compatible closed-loop communication, critical battery parameters—including cell-level monitoring, individual cell balance, and temperature control—cannot be monitored by the system.

Active CAN bus integration enables real-time fault detection and diagnostic alerts, which are displayed directly on the Cerbo GX screen in clear, plain-language text. This ensures system warnings or faults are immediately obvious to the user so corrective action can be taken before any system damage occurs.

Important: Failure to use an Egon Certified Battery or a battery with an equivalent communication protocol will void the manufacturer warranty on the Egon 48V Hub.

The EGON DC-Hub 48V is the centre of the system, but it is not the whole system.

A functional EGON 48V setup generally requires:

- A compatible 48V alternator
- Alternator control via the Wakespeed / Victron partner package
- A 48V battery
- One or more 48V to 12V or 24V DC/DC converters
- The EGON DC-Hub 48V as the central connection and protection point
- Vehicle-specific fitment hardware where required

Core EGON 48V System Components

1. EGON DC-Hub 48V

The DC-Hub 48V brings the main 48V system components together into one organised architecture. It acts as the central connection and protection point for the system.

2. 48V Alternator

A compatible 48V alternator is required for high-output vehicle charging. EGON offers vehicle-specific 48V alternator options, and the correct option depends on the vehicle platform and mounting requirements.

3. 48V Battery

A 48V battery is required to store energy for the system. EGON’s current battery option is the EGON 48V Certified 105Ah LiFePO4 Battery.

4. 48V to 12V or 24V DC/DC Converter

Many 48V systems still need lower-voltage DC power for existing vehicle accessories, auxiliary systems, or camper systems. EGON offers DC/DC converter options for stepping the 48V system down to either 12V or 24V output.

Available converter options:

- 48V to 13.8V, 100A
- 48V to 27.6V, 70A

Some setups may require more than one converter, depending on how the vehicle and auxiliary systems are configured.

5. Alternator control and monitoring

The 48V alternator requires suitable control and monitoring hardware. See the Partner Packages tab for the Wakespeed / Victron package used with the EGON 48V architecture.

6. Mounting and fitment hardware

Some vehicles may require specific alternator mounting or fitment hardware. Vehicle compatibility and mounting requirements should be confirmed before ordering.
